This dance
company certainly delivers on its promise of exuberant, athletic dancing. It’s
a large company of virtuoso dancers with nearly twice as many males as females
in its line-up. Most of the handsome dancers displayed superb classical
techniques, with some having danced principal roles in major classical companies
and others excel in contemporary dance.
The
choreographers, Australian Aaron Cash and Cuban, Roclan Gonzalez Chavez, have
exploited the best of both genres to devise a dazzling, fast moving program of
short works which display the individual athleticism of the dancers. Thrilling
solos and duos are sprinkled among the largely ensemble works which dissolved
seamlessly from one to another with the dancers seemingly only leaving the
stage to change costume.
Their only
Canberra performance was given without the advertised live band, but performed
to excellent recorded versions of the music of Sia, Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, Lorde,
Jessie J and Rihanna and others.
Disappointingly
there were no printed programs available, so it’s not possible to report on the
individual items, or who danced them. This is a shame, because there are
outstanding dancers in this company who should be acknowledged.
Nevertheless,
the company received an enthusiastic reception from its Canberra audience. Try
and catch them when they come to your city. You will not be disappointed.
